Police say an Ashland man shot his wife in the neck while she sat in her vehicle in Port Carbon Wednesday.
Cynthia Salvador-Branch told Port Carbon Police she had been fighting with “Curtis” when he shot her. She drove to the borough police station at 301 First St. She was then taken by Schuylkill EMS, and flown to Geisinger Hospital-Danville, with life-threatening injuries.
Curtis Branch, 38, was found by borough patrolman Joseph Murton walking on Coal Street and was arrested. Murton had gone to the victim’s residence in the 300 block of Coal Street. Murton knew “Curtis” to be Branch because of previous interactions.
State police spoke to residents and viewed a surveillance video that showed the victim run from her house and get into a vehicle. Branch followed her and fired into the driver’s side window.
He walked to the front of her home and later went back to the vehicle before it drove away.
A search of the Coal Street residence found a Taurus 9 mm handgun registered to the victim. Police found a 9 mm spent shell casing near where the vehicle was parked.
Branch is prohibited from possessing a firearm, having been convicted of felony sale of a controlled substance in New York.
He is in Schuylkill County prison without bail.
He is charged with attempted first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, possessing instruments of crime and possession of firearm prohibited.
