Volunteers needed

The church family of Pleasant Assembly of God Church is asking for volunteers among its membership to help with parking and serving Saturday at Pocono Raceway from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Effort services

Effort UMC will hold services at 8:30, 10 and 11 a.m. Sunday. Reservations are recommended. The 10 a.m. service will include a baptism.

Run/walk Sunday

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is pleased to announce the seventh annual Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail Run/Walk at the West End Regional Park on 578 Evergreen Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township at 9 a.m. Sunday. Registration is an hour before.

The event is a fundraiser for the annual scholarship given to a Pleasant Valley graduate who exemplifies the outstanding attributes of Mr. Fleetwood.

It will include a kid’s costume run for youngsters under 12 years old. They are asked to dress up in a patriotic theme and run a one-fourth mile loop. Prizes will be given out for some child participants. Kids run free with an adult registration.

Virtual worship

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is slated to hold a virtual worship service this Sunday. Services are posted on the church’s Facebook page and on YouTube.

Memorial Day events

• Polk Township will hold its 25th Annual Memorial Day program at the Veterans Memorial and Adam’s Faith Garden in Kresgeville at 2 p.m. Sunday.

• American Legion Post 927 will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday.

The event is open to the public, but indoor guests are limited to 60 guests.

CDC guidelines will be followed inside and outside. A light lunch will follow the outdoor portion of the event.

• Eldred Township is hosting a Memorial Day service in honor of the Veterans at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial at 490 Kunkletown Road. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.

Vaccination time

The Pleasant Valley School District is partnering with St. Luke’s in offering the Pfizer vaccine for all students ages 12 and up, as well as their parents and guardians, on Tuesday, at the PV Middle School from 3 to 7 p.m.

Interested families are asked to contact the nurse at the respective child’s school to schedule an appointment time. The follow-up second dose is currently scheduled for June 22.

PVEN needs

Among the needs for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, as listed by a member church, are salad dressing, pancake mix, maple syrup and canned vegetables for the food pantry portion and shampoo and conditioner, women’s deodorant, body wash and toothbrushes for the clothing closet portion.

Chestnuthill meets

The Board of Supervisors for Chestnuthill Township meets the first and third Tuesday of the month. The next board meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

WEHA meeting

The West End Home Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Gilbert.

On June 3, Legion Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Two upcoming events are the Valor motorcycle run and barbecue on June 12 and on June 13 a Flag Day ceremony, from noon to 1 p.m.

The event is open to the public and includes Boy Scout Troop 102 and Cub Pack 102 offering a proper U.S. flag disposal opportunity.

Produce and more

The list of 2021 Monroe County farmers markets, as posted in the Monroe County Seniors’ June newsletter, including selling farmers, is over a dozen strong.

At least a half dozen are in the West End, with a few more having a local address.

Volunteers sought

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to help with the hoped-for completion of 30 home preservation projects in partnership with neighboring homeowners in need in Monroe County.

MCHFH has a need for volunteers of various skill levels and talent.

Strudel fundraiser

The Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a Matties Strudel Haus fundraiser. Both savory and sweet are offered.

Pickup will be June 19 at the outside kitchen door between 10 and 11 a.m.

Cruise & Dine

The Polk Township Fire and Rescue in Kresgeville, at 511 Interchange Road, has announced its Cruise In and Dine Outside events.

On June 4, from 5 to 9 p.m., it is the Classic Car and Hot Rod Cruise Night.

On June 5, from 2 to 8 p.m., it is the Jeep and Truck Cruise in Night.

Cruise In parking is at the blacktop behind the firehouse. All other parking is in the field next to the firehouse. Cash only.

The volunteers invite people to attend the outdoor fair food trailer extravaganza and to bring along lawn chairs, in order to see some great cars cruise in.

The fire company will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs. All other concessions are by Dale’s Concessions.

And, on Saturday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m., there will be live music by the Steel Creek Band with a charge per car.

COVID-19 social distancing and safety practices will be in place. Attendees’ cooperation is requested.

Flea market

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is looking to meet old friends and new at its spring flea market on June 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of June 12.

The church’s Route 115 parking lot and lawns will be filled with vendors, browsers and buyers as safe distancing and masks are utilized to bring some socialization and fun activities.

The church kitchen will offer up hot dogs, home-baked mac and cheese, baked goodies and beverages to satisfy hunger and thirst.

Communion held

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will offer Holy Communion on June 6. Pastor Ed Bean’s sermon will be “What the Church Ought to Be.”

The church’s Christian Education Sunday classes are on hiatus until autumn, continuing the study of the Book of Acts.

Anniversary Mass

His Excellency, the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton, and the Office for Parish Life wish to invite couples celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2021 to a diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass on June 6, at the Cathedral of St. Peter. The Mass will begin at 2:30 p.m., and attendance will require advance reservation.
