Northampton man charged for role in gun, drug trafficking scheme
A Northampton County man who was charged for his role in a gun and drug trafficking scheme last month was arrested by agents from the attorney general’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations, along with U.S. marshals and Pennsylvania State Police in an apartment in Bowmanstown on Thursday, authorities say.
According to the affidavit filed by agent Thomas Sedor of the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General in the case against Christopher Weikert:
Sedor conducted an investigation at Weikert’s residence on East Eighth Street in Northampton and identified that Weikert, 34, of Northampton, and his girlfriend, Tara Gallucci, 34, share the residence.
On April 28, agents from the Office of Attorney General and members of the PSP SERT team served a search warrant at the residence.
Shortly after the execution of the search warrant, Weikert and Gallucci were observed driving past the residence in a vehicle previously identified during the course of the investigation.
The vehicle fled from Northampton Police, and Weikert escaped the area on foot, while Gallucci was taken into custody.
A search of the residence turned up:
• A substantial amount of suspected fentanyl with a field weight of about 25 grams and a street value of about $5,000.
• About 20.5 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, with a street value of about $968,200.
• Several pounds of suspected marijuana.
• Several digital scales, plastic bags and marijuana growing operation equipment.
• $6,668 in cash.
• Five rifles, three revolvers/handguns, and six functionally assembled ghost guns.
• Information that identified Welkert and Gallucci as being residents and occupants of the residence in Northampton.
The drugs were field tested and confirmed as fentanyl, methamphetamine and marijuana.
Weikert had a prior conviction in Lehigh County for burglary, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Weikert faces charges on 14 counts of possession of firearm prohibited; four counts of manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; and three counts of intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered.
He is currently incarcerated in the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $1 million monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing May 28 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke of Walnutport.
