Blood drive

The American Red Cross will be at Faith Lutheran Church today from noon to 6 p.m. To see if there are still open appointments, call 800-733-2767.

Bible study

McMichaels UMC welcomes all to attend tonight’s Bible study beginning at 6:30 p.m. and every Wednesday thereafter.

Weather permitting, it will be held outdoors. Refreshments will be offered.

The church’s next donation-only breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. June 12.

Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 927, is meeting at 7 tonight. The executive committee meeting is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

EBB launched

Pleasant Valley School District has announced that according to the Federal Communications Commission the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program was to have launched today: At this time, consumers can apply for the program through the National Verifier at GetEmergencyBroadband.org and service providers can begin enrolling consumers in the National Lifeline Accountability Database who qualified through the National Verifier or through an alternative verification process, or who opted in to the program from Lifeline.

Please note that Lifeline Claims System workflows for the EBB program are in the final stages of development and will be deployed in advance of the first snapshot date.

USAC will provide additional information to participating providers when LCS is available for testing.

Ascension Mass

The Mass schedule for Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for Ascension Day is 5 p.m. today and 12:10 and 7 p.m. Thursday.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the church hall.

Charismatic group

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has a Spanish Charismatic Group. That group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Friday in the Cafe.

Eldred workshop

The Eldred Township Supervisors will be holding a special workshop meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Eldred Township Municipal Building to discuss plans for the trail at Mock Park.

Plans for continued maintenance, grant opportunities and other topics will be discussed. Public input is welcomed and the meeting is open to all.

The township is currently seeking volunteers to assist in trail maintenance. Anyone interested can sign up at the meeting or contact the township secretary at 610-381-4252 or email a.velopolcek@eldredtwp.org.

Cleanup time

American Legion Post 927 is having its cleanup day on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. That cleanup includes grounds and buildings. No tools are required, just helpfulness and energy.

Scout Day

This Saturday, the Garden of Giving celebrates Scout Day. All Scout troops, boys and girls, are encouraged to sign up to help out. Younger Scouts will be scheduled for the morning, and older Scouts for the afternoon. Contact the Garden for more information at 570-9402-1282.

Bake sale

The Youth Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a bake sale after all Masses this Saturday and Sunday or until sold out.

The church teens are preparing for the National Catholic Youth Conference.

Breakfast served

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 (EAA 839) invites the public to its monthly pancake breakfast, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing to 1 p.m. this Sunday.

The pilots of EAA 839 are offering pancakes, sausage, orange juice or coffee, and the breakfast will be served rain or shine at Pegasus Airpark, Hickory Lane, Sciota (turn off Route 209 at Miller’s Flower Shop by Kate).

The local MG Club is expected to attend. Come admire private aircraft and classic sports cars while dining.

Riders meeting

The American Legion Riders monthly meeting is at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, at the American Legion Post 927, Route 209, Gilbert.

The drawing for the Dunkelberger’s Mossburg Patriot 6.5 Creedmore with scope, including a Simmons Rangefinder, soft case and strap sling, is slated to take place at 11:30 a.m.

Winner need not be present to win.

At noon there will be the annual Blessing of the Bikes event at the Legion. That is for the group blessing. The individual blessings will take place at 12:30 p.m. All bikes are welcome.

Praise service

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will have parking lot praise and virtual service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Next week it will be a Holy Communion parking lot service and virtual service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Women’s Club

This month’s meeting of the Western Pocono Women’s Club will be held on Monday at Effort United Methodist Church with a picnic at 6 p.m. followed by the group’s meeting. CDC guidelines will be in effect with masks, except when eating.

Any member not having signed up for the picnic sandwich should do so as soon as possible to pborger@ptd.net.

The Supplemental Food Pantry at EUMC will be the nonprofit recipient for this month’s collection. Suggestions are jam, jelly and peanut butter.

Quilting time

Seven members of the Western Pocono Women’s Club met at Effort Methodist Church in April. As of that meeting, the group donated 16 lap quilts for clients of Monroe County’s Meals on Wheels program.

An email from MOW included a thank-you from one of the clients who appreciated his surprise birthday quilt. The next quilting session will also take place at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until around 3 p.m.

Anyone who loves to sew is always welcome to join this group.

Chestnuthill meeting

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Valor PTSD meeting

Veterans UnStoppable Peer to Peer Support Group is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Post 927 in Gilbert.

That meeting is open to non-Post members.

It is sponsored by Valor Paul’s House in Jonas.

Eldred meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Meetings are held virtually and in person.

Drive-in supper

Next Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will host another drive-in community supper.

Barbecue ahead

The Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road off Route 115 in Effort, will be having its semiannual chicken barbecue seasoned dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. May 22. It is takeout only.

The menu consists of a seasoned chicken half, baked potato, delicious corn and a choice of the church’s secret recipe creamed cabbage (coleslaw) or applesauce. The meal also comes with a roll and homemade dessert.

There is a reduced cost for children, 4 to 12 years old.

Car show

The 25th Annual West End Car show is slated for June 27 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert, rain or shine.

Gates open and car registration begins at 8 a.m.

There is an admission charge, though children 12 and under will get in free. Parking is also free.

Flea market and craft spaces are available.

Youth Field Day

Monroe County Youth Field Day has been announced for Sept. 11 at Camp Trexler. Registration will open June 28 via the web.

This event, which is free, and includes many outdoor activities, is open to youth ages 8 to14.

Any and all necessary and required precautions will be taken to ensure the health and safety of all of the participants, their families and the volunteers.
