2021 primary election: Ritter announces his reelection bid as the mayor of Lehighton

Lehighton Mayor Clark Ritter announces his bid for reelection. Ritter was elected mayor in November 2017.

During his tenure as mayor, Ritter has instituted programs for the benefit of all Lehighton residents, both young and old. “Talk with the Mayor,” a program that allows borough residents to talk directly to the mayor and offer suggestions, recommendations or complaints. “Neighborhood Watch,” which is a program aimed at reducing crime within Lehighton Borough with participation by its residents, and “Junior Mayor,” which teaches youth about local government. The Junior Mayor Program has allowed 14 Girl Scouts to earn their “Inside Government” badges and three Boy Scouts to earn their “Citizenship in the Community” badges.

Ritter feels these programs are most beneficial as they all involve citizen participation that positively impacts borough residents. While these programs have been suspended due to COVID-19, they will be restarted again as soon as possible.

In addition, Ritter has attended numerous business openings, has performed three wedding ceremonies, participated in School Outreach, speaking to students about government, is a member of the COVID-19 Task Force, assists in Safe School Traffic planning, assists in implementing Police Outreach for community events, re-evaluated snow emergency routes within the borough, oversees the Lehighton Police Department, and attends monthly Lehighton borough council meetings, casting a tiebreaking vote when necessary.

Ritter, a former Pennsylvania State Trooper, along with his wife, Carol, are lifelong Lehighton residents and are honored to serve their community and look forward to continuing to do so.
