For the time being, Lehighton has agreed to pay for a backstop at its baseball field at Baer Memorial.

On a unanimous measure, borough council on Monday agreed to utilize borough funds to pay for the structure behind the home plate area.

The borough has an agreement with the Franklin Township Athletic Association, which planned to pay for the backstop, but can’t at the present time.

As part of its motion, council agreed to have the athletic association reimburse the borough at a cost not to exceed $3,000, to be paid before the end of June 2022.
