Day of prayer
This past Sunday was a National Blue Sunday Day of Prayer. That is a day of prayer for abused children as per information from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.
However, one can reach out to the abused in various ways, including the local schools, Monroe County Children & Youth, as well as one’s local church.
Focus weekends
Monroe County Conservation District and Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center Conservation Stewardship Week foci end May 2.
Still on the celebration agenda are: Thursday, Spotted Lanternfly Public Outreach Event and Saturday, Spring Migration Bird Walk.

Hoagie pickup
Anyone who ordered a hoagie or hoagies from McMichaels UMC is reminded that the pickup time is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Friday planting
The Monroe County Garden Club will be doing a weeping willow planting in honor of Arbor Day at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Polk Township Walking Park.
The park is next to the Polk Township Municipal Building, 165 Polk Township Road, Kresgeville.
The public is welcome, bring chairs. Light refreshments will be served, thanks to Kinsley’s ShopRite.

Pantry open
The West End Food Pantry, at the Eldred Township Community Center on Kunkletown Road is slated to be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Older Americans
On Saturday, the monthlong Older Americans Month celebration begins.
The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging will celebrate by advising community members to share by looking for joy in the everyday, by reaching out to neighbors, by building new skills, by sharing one’s story.
Bingo Sunday
The CIA (Christians in Action) of St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, has announced bingo in the Grove for Sunday, beginning at noon.
The bingo begins at 1 p.m. The hour preceding is for finding nourishment to buy and enjoy at the food stand.
Players will need chips and dabbers. There is a cost.

Kentucky Derby
The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is celebrating the Kentucky Derby Run for the Roses from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Limited tickets are available at Post 927.
The evening will include a ladies and gents hat contest. The event is open to members and guests.
Chestnuthill board
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

PV families
Any Pleasant Valley School District families with a child who turns 5 by this Sept. 1, is reminded it is time to register for kindergarten.
To register, go to www.pvbears.org and locate the registration portal under the Our District Tab and follow posted instructions.
Due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, registrations are being completed virtually utilizing Zoom with parents who have the capabilities to do so.

Volunteers thanked
The Garden of Giving extends its thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the first big planting of 2021. Two weekends in April saw the successful start of many cold weather crops. The planting continues in May, with a special Scout Day on May 15. Scout leaders are encouraged to sign up their groups as soon as possible.
The big weekend of May 22-23 will hold a major planting event, when 2,000 seedlings are established. Many volunteers are needed. All gardening supplies will be provided.

WEHA meeting
The West End Home Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. May 4, at the Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
Blood drive set
An American Red Cross blood drive will be held at the American Legion in Gilbert from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 6. Sign up on the web or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
