For the first time in the history of the Carbon County Oratory Contest, there was a tie yesterday for first place in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Tim Rooney of Jim Thorpe and Joseph Spisak of Panther Valley were tied for first place in the boys’ division.

Tied for second place in the girls’ contest were Amy Lukasevich of Jim Thorpe and Barbara Barno of Panther Valley.

Other contestants were Susan Patterson and Michael Heery, Lehighton, Annette Bennett and Kirk Yeager, Palmerton, and Cindy Brozyno, Weatherly.

Judges were David Koch, Bob Papcsy and Ray Muniz, from Northwestern, Whitehall and Dieruff high schools, respectively.
