Two students in the graphics design program of the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe were winners in a statewide competition hosted by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
The contest was to promote the Safe2Say Something program, a youth violence prevention and reporting program run by the state Attorney General and his office.
Each student developed the message and designed a poster about the program.
Valerie Kruslicky, from the Panther Valley School District, won third place in the ninth grade division for her poster encouraging students to speak up to save a life, and features statistics about teen suicide and increased anxiety and depression associated with the COVID-19 lockdowns. She received a $50 Amazon gift card.
Dakota Trach, from the Lehighton Area School District, was the second-place winner in the 10th grade division. Her poster focused on the tag line “Quick Contact Without Contact,” pointing out that the “Safe2Say Something” program is a way for students to get help in these days of social distancing. Dakota won an Amazon Fire 10 HD tablet.
Both students took part in a virtual event with Shapiro and his office’s design staff on March 1.
The Attorney General congratulated the students and provided feedback on their posters.
