Two people injured in Polk Township crash

Two people were injured in an early morning head-on crash in front of The Armory gun retail shop on Route 209 in Polk Township.

Firefighters from Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company “extricated one person using the Jaws of Life and West End firefighters landed a medical helicopter at the Polk elementary school,” said Polk fire chief Billy Tippett. “Members from both companies closed Route 209 and assisted the tow company with an extensive cleanup.”

The crash occurred at 7:13 a.m. One vehicle rolled over. The section of the road between HTY Road and Burger Hollow Road was closed until 8:41 a.m.

One person was flown to St. Luke’s in Bethlehem. West End Ambulance transported the second person to Lehigh Valley Pocono.

The vehicles involved - a white Subaru and a red Jeep - were badly damaged with air bags deployed and towed to Barry Borger’s garage in Kresgeville.

State police at Lehighton are investigating.

We’ll update as more information becomes available.
