Company looks to transfer liquor license to Nesquehoning site

A Nesquehoning gas station and convenience store is hoping to transfer a liquor license to its facility.

A letter from representatives of Priya Foods LLC, which owns and operates Friendly Food Mart II, 3 Stock St., to the borough states that the company hopes to transfer a liquor license from Shrikbk LLC in Palmerton. State records show that Shrikbk owns Pit Stop Service Mart at 577 Delaware Ave.

RoniSue Ahner, Nesquehoning borough secretary-treasurer, said that a hearing is being scheduled for April regarding this matter.

Shrikbk’s liquor license has been in the transfer process before.

According to previous reports in the Times News, Mallard Markets Inc. of Lehighton applied for the license to be transferred to its store on South Second Street in 2019.

Pit Stop said that it could not comply with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s regulations because it did not receive the proper financing for the expansion of its beer store at 577 Delaware Ave., and that it was unable to provide the amount of parking it would need pursuant to the Palmerton Zoning Ordinance. Because of this, the company was looking at transferring the license.

Following testimony, the transfer was denied by the PLCB in Harrisburg and an appeal on the denial was filed in Carbon County Court in January 2020.

In October 2020, Carbon County Court of Common Pleas Judge Joseph Matika denied Mallard Markets’ and Shrikbk LLC’s appeal, leaving the PLCB’s decision to deny the intermunicipal double transfer of the license in place.
