State police report on area crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers in Carbon County:

• A two-vehicle, rear-end crash, was reported at 4:13 p.m. on Monday on Canal Street, at the intersection with Interchange Road, in Franklin Township. Troopers said Robert L. Williams, 64, of Palmerton, driving a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 truck, was stopped for a red traffic light in the left southbound lane. Autumn M. Ross, 27, of Nesquehoning, driving a 2016 Kia Sportage, was southbound and was distracted utilizing a GPS feature on her cellphone and failed to see Williams’ position. The front of the Kia hit the rear of the Dodge.

No one was injured. Troopers said Ross was cited for following too closely.

• A crash was reported at 10:10 p.m. on March 13 along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Scott A. Perkins, 34, of Slatington, was driving a 2016 Dodge Challenger southbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a residence at 4045 Forest Inn Road.

Perkins suffered serious injuries and was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency responders. He was then taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. The vehicle sustained heavy damages and was towed from the scene.

Troopers indicated Perkins was driving under the influence at the time.

Police reported on other crashes:

• State police at Fogelsville said Thomas R. Williams, 61, of New Ringgold, was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer at 4:41 a.m. March 23 along Route 100 in Lowhill Township, Lehigh County.

He fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle drifted off the road and onto the west berm where it struck the guide rail. Williams woke up and tried corrective actions with the Ford going back across the lanes of travel and striking the guide rail on the east side of the road. The SUV overturned and came to rest.

Williams was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, by Cetronia ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Williams was cited for the crash.

• State police at Stroudsburg reported on a two-vehicle crash at 2:42 p.m. on March 15 along Route 2002 in Hamilton Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Matthew T. Evans, 23, of Effort, was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 truck with trailer attached southbound while George D. Tallada, 53, of Saylorsburg, driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan, was stopped in the southbound lane waiting for northbound traffic to clear so he could make a left turn. Evans failed to slow down and his vehicle struck the rear of the Caravan.

No one was injured. Troopers cited Evans for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a two-vehicle crash at 5:08 p.m. on March 21 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Victoria R. Ficke, 20, of East Stroudsburg, was exiting the parking lot of a local pharmacy driving a 2008 Honda Civic to go north on 115. Jorge W. Mora, 43, of Stroudsburg, was southbound on 115. Troopers said Ficke entered the travel lanes of 115 and her Civic was struck by Mora’s 2016 Nissan Altima.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Ficke was cited for vehicle entering or crossing a highway.
