Slatington farmers market to open by Mother’s Day
A new destination and event space plans to be up and running in Washington Township by Mother’s Day weekend.
The Slatington Farmers Market will be located on the same campus as the Slatington Marketplace at 8281 Route 873.
Chris White, one of three partners with the Slatington Marketplace and Slatington Farmers Market, said the 28,000-square-foot destination farmers market and event space located inside of the former Keystone Lamp Factory promises to be a family-friendly attraction.
“We listened to our customers, who said there is a need to promote Slatington,” White said.
Joshua Karoly, who along with his brother, J.P. Karoly, are the other two partners, took it a step further.
“We’ve been getting more foot traffic,” Joshua Karoly said. “We wanted to make it kind of a sister store, and a farmers market, we felt it fit that criteria.”
The Slatington Farmers Market will feature fresh farm products, prepared foods and handmade goods from local growers, artisans and specialty food producers.
Over 50 booths are available.
With the 4,000 square foot event space and on the same campus as the Slatington Marketplace, Karoly said the Slatington Farmers Market is set to be the region’s premier farmers market.
“There will be a deli, poultry, produce, fresh flowers, crafts, nut shops, coffee purveyors, a microbrewery, winery,” Karoly said. “It’s a place where they can come over to the market to grab some lunch or dinner, and we’ll have certain events, live and acoustic music for the season, from out of the parking area.”
White echoed Karoly’s sentiment.
“It’s a great way to spend the afternoon or evening,” White said.
Karoly said once the Slatington Farmers Market opens, it will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
What’s more, Karoly said they plan to expand the antique mall by another 50 vendors, adding they currently have about 150, which will eventually give them about 200 vendors.
The total anticipated construction cost is about $2.5 million.
The architect for the project is Daniel Ebner Architects of Allentown.
