Teen killed, 3 injured in Schuylkill

A teen was killed and three others were injured in a one-vehicle crash in Schuylkill County Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 5:32 p.m. in the area of 800 Ann St., in Norwegian Township. Troopers said a 17-year-old front seat passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was a 17-year-old female. The two rear passengers were Tyler Lee Jennings, 24, of Pottsville, and another 17-year-old.

Troopers said the driver was attempting to negotiate a left curve in the road while it was raining and going at a high rate of speed. She lost control of the vehicle which then struck a guide rail on the east side of the road, followed the guide rail north, overturned onto its roof, and struck a utility pole.

The two rear seat passengers, Jennings and the 17-year-old, were able to free themselves from the wreckage. The driver had to be extricated by emergency personnel.

Jennings and the 17-year-old passenger were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville. The driver was taken to the Reading Hospital.

PPL crews arrived on scene and notified rescue personnel that the damaged pole was charged and a potential danger. PPL personnel requested additional crews to correct the electrical charge and secure the damaged pole. Various local fire companies assisted at the scene as did Pottsville police.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
