Groundbreaking held for Kidder Township warehouse

On Wednesday morning, Kidder Township and Carbon County officials came together to join developer, the Exeter Property Group, for a groundbreaking ceremony along Route 940.

The Exeter Property Group is building a 921,328-square-foot class A warehouse on a 284-acre site.

The project has been three years in the planning, a team effort between Exeter; Blue Ridge Real Estate; Kidder Township; state Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon; state Sen. John Yudichak, I-Carbon/Luzerne; the Governor’s Action Team; and the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation to obtain the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant from the state.

The team also worked to extend the Keystone Opportunity Zone for the parcel.

Exeter has over 200 million square feet of warehousing being constructed across the country.

This property is about a mile east of the Pocono Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike where it meets Interstate 80.

The building planned will be built roughly parallel to Route 940. It’s offered with 187 dock doors, and parking for more than 300 trailers, plus nearly 290 parking spaces for employees. Construction is estimated to take a year.

Kathy Henderson of the CCEDC said, “This project will bring not just construction jobs at the beginning, but also is projected to create 300 jobs after build out.

“It will benefit the local area by stimulating the economy, creating ancillary businesses to support those employees and bring a larger tax base to all three taxing bodies.”

The parcel consists of 200 acres, however only 80 acres is being developed. The remainder of the land including the creek that runs along the south end of the property will never be developed and will remain wooded and green space.
