Today, Representative Susan Wild, PA-07, and Senator Bob Casey, D-PA, announced that the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service is conducting an audit of Lehigh Valley Processing and Distribution Center.
Wild and Casey raised concerns about burdensome mail delays at the facility during a visit in October.
“There is simply no excuse for folks in the Lehigh Valley continuing to suffer through long mail delays,” said Wild.
“For families who get prescriptions in the mail or are waiting for their stimulus check, this audit cannot come quickly enough. I’m glad my advocacy alongside Sen. Casey has helped lead to this review, and I will continue to push for answers soon as to why these delays have persisted for so long, and for a plan to get service up to normal speed as quickly as possible.”
“Ever since Postmaster General DeJoy implemented dubious operational changes to the Postal Service last summer, people in the Lehigh Valley and across the Commonwealth have faced the consequences,” said Senator Casey. “The USPS Inspector General’s audit is an important step to stop mail delays which never should have happened. I am proud to advocate for Lehigh Valley residents with Rep. Wild and I will continue to press USPS for changes until Pennsylvanians once again receive their bills, prescriptions, packages and other mail without delay.”
Last month, Wild joined her colleagues to demand that President Biden fill vacancies on the United States Postal Service Board of Governors. She also led a press conference in August alongside local union leaders to insist upon relief to post offices ahead of the 2020 election.
