State police report on crashes in Carbon, Monroe counties

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9 p.m. on March 7 along Rolling Hills Road in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a 17-year-old female from Palmerton was driving a 2007 Subaru Forester northbound and negotiating a slight right-hand turn when her vehicle struck a small patch of ice. The teen lost control of the vehicle which traveled over the double yellow line and into the left lane and then onto the berm where it struck an embankment.

The teen was not injured. She was cited for the crash.

• On Feb. 27 at 4:56 p.m. a hit-and-run crash was reported at the intersection of Mount Eaton Road at Route 115, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Jonas L. Howell, 27, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2006 Subaru Forester northbound on Mount Eaton Road while another vehicle was southbound. The other vehicle left its lane of travel and crossed into the northbound lane and sideswiped Howell’s vehicle in the rear driver side area. After impact the other driver fled the scene.

Howell and his passenger, Kassidy L. Lyon, 22, of East Stroudsburg, were not injured.

Carbon crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on two Carbon County crash investigations.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:55 p.m. on March 2 along Pine Point Drive in Kidder Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Margaret M. Mulligan, 74, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester, and was turning into the entrance to the Square One car wash when she lost control of the vehicle. The Forester accelerated rapidly and struck an exit side wall on the car wash causing damages to the car wash wall and garage bay door.

Mulligan was injured and taken by Lake Harmony ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton.

• The second crash occurred at 2:42 a.m. on March 6 along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said Broderick E. Acker, 19, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta southbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. He said he was unable to avoid the animal and struck it.

Acker was not injured, but the vehicle had to be towed.
