On Wednesday, the Monroe County Commissioners awarded two proclamations and certificates for saving two lives in a catastrophic fire on Main Street in Stroudsburg on Feb. 10.
Calling Cpl. Russell Doyle to the front of the room, Chairwoman Sharon S. Laverdure said, “It’s my honor on behalf of the commissioners, in recognition of the courageous act and great personal risk, you came to the aid of a fellow human on Feb. 10, 2021, by entering a burning building and rescuing a person trapped inside the building, thereby saving a life. Thank you for the work you do every day.”
Following Doyle’s award, Laverdure asked Deputy Sheriff Kochan Mateusz to come to the front and said to him, “Thank you very much. I would like to read this order in effort of recognition of your courageous actions. At great personal risk, you came to the aid of a fellow human on Feb. 10, 2021, by entering a burning building and rescuing a person trapped inside, thereby saving a life. Thank you for the work that you do every day.”
Everyone in the room applauded the two men and a motion was passed to accept the proclamations.
