A Lehigh County inmate has been found dead in his cell.

At 7:06 a.m. Saturday, Jeff Mendoza, 32, was found unresponsive in his cell.

According to Lehigh County Director of Corrections Janine Donate, staff immediately declared a medical emergency and began administering CPR.

On site medical personnel assisted with lifesaving efforts. EMS was called, arrived at the facility at 7:20 and took over the scene. The inmate was pronounced deceased.

Lehigh County District Attorney’s office and the Lehigh County Coroner’s office are investigating the death. An autopsy will be scheduled and further information will be released by the Coroner’s office.

Lehigh County offers its condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
