Third Amendment

Dear Editor:

Recently people have been approaching a number of our municipal governments asking them to pass a “Second Amendment sanctuary” resolution. I can understand this - many gun owners feel the need to possess firearms in case their neighbors throw snow in their parking places.

What bothers me is the way the Third Amendment is ignored. How do we know the government won’t force us to house Navy SEALs or members of the National Guard? Are not our homes our castles, be they ever so humble? Why should our homes be turned into bed-and-breakfasts for troops with muddy combat boots when we already have a Third Amendment in the Constitution? Some of you may think I’m alarmist, but I read about this on Facebook.

I’m calling on every Carbon County municipality to pass a Third Amendment Sanctuary resolution. The sooner the better.
