To the editor:

As for a recent opinion that retired presidents should just go away: What about James Earl Carter Jr. and his Carter Center initiatives for the poor? He has done far more for the people on this planet since he left office than he did before.

My husband and I went to the Las Vegas convention of the National Association of Home Builders in 1992 and there was Jimmy Carter helping to build a Habitat for Humanity home on the parking lot.
