Tamaqua’s boys and girls basketball teams both posted wins on Thursday.

The girls edged Pottsville, while the boys downed Shenandoah.

Elsewhere, the Marian boys extended its winning streak with a victory against Weatherly.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Weatherly

Marian’s winning streak reached 10 games after a huge second half gave the Colts a 69-31 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Frank Valente scored 10 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter as the visitors outscored the Wreckers 25-4 in the period.

Marian (11-1; 9-1) also received 16 points and eight rebounds from Dewin Concepcion, while Brendan Lonergan chipped in with 12 points.

Frank Willis paced Weatherly (11-4; 7-4) with nine points.

Shenandoah-Tamaqua

A balanced scoring attack helped Tamaqua gain a 42-31 nonleague victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Luke Verta tallied a game-high 12 points for the Blue Raiders (2-14), while Nate Gregoire and Steven Hoffman both finished with 10. The winners also received nine points from Brady Sherry.

Pottsville upped its Schuylkill League record to 9-1 by posting a 46-33 victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Crimson Tide (11-2 overall), who jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead, received a game-high 16 points from Jazce Carbello-Snowell.

Chris Condly finished with nine points to pace the Olympians (7-7; 5-5), while Caiden Hurley chipped in with eight.

Northern Lehigh-Wilson

After an even first quarter, Wilson pulled away from Northern Lehigh for a 63-36 Colonial League victory.

Nashawn Jones scored eight of his game-high 26 points in the second quarter as the Warriors built a 10-point halftime lead.

The Bulldogs (0-7; 0-7) were led in scoring by Jaden Marlett, who tallied 11 points. Ardit Mujovic also reached double digits, finishing with 10.

Pleasant Valley-NDES

Aaron Bailey’s 31-point performance sparked Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg to a 76-63 non-conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Bears (1-8) played to a 17-17 first-quarter tie, but Bailey tallied eight of his points in the second quarter as the Crusaders outscored PV by a 23-7 margin.

For Pleasant Valley, Donald Francois finished with a team-high 17 points, while Jarod Moore added 13.

Meckes finished with 11 points for the Blue Raiders, who improved to 10-6 overall, and 9-3 in the league.

Tamaqua was led in scoring by Sophia Boyle, who tallied a game-high 15 points.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Pottsville recorded a Schuylkill League sweep against Tamaqua.

The Crimson Tide girls earned a 101-75 win, while the boys topped the Blue Raiders by an 86-57 margin.

Tamaqua’s Ethan Amershek posted individual firsts in both the 200 IM and 100 free.

The Raiders also received a first in the 500 free from Joey Lescavage.

Talin Fairchild hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Lehighton to a 23-22 win over Pen Argyl.

Carter Bellis led the Indians with six points, while Fairchild finished with five.

JR. HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL

8TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

Samantha Plasha scored 11 points to help Tamaqua defeat Panther Valley, 28-13.

The Raiders also received eight points from Kolbe Robb, while Natalie Vermillion paced PV with five points.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Kolbe Robb poured in 13 points to lead Tamaqua to a 28-8 win over Jim Thorpe.

The Raiders’ Veronica Scott chipped in with six points.

7TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

Tamaqua registered a 35-21 victory over Panther Valley.

Kendel Miller led the Blue Raiders with 10 points, while Leah Black added nine.

PV’s Morgan Orsulak led all scorers with 15 points.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua downed Jim Thorpe by a 31-21 score.

Kendel Miller tallied a game-high 16 points for the Blue Raiders, while Leah Black added 11.

The Olympians were led by S. Herman’s seven points.
