Local roundup: Results from Feb. 10

The Palmerton boys and girls basketball teams picked up wins against Saucon Valley on Wednesday.

Jim Thorpe’s Leila Hurley also hit the 1,000-point plateau in a win over Panther Valley.

Elsewhere, the Marian boys, along with the Weatherly and Northern Lehigh girls basketball teams, picked up victories.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Williams Valley

An 18-point opening quarter sparked Marian to a 47-39 Schuylkill League win over Williams Valley.

Three players scored in double figures for the Colts (10-1 overall; 8-1 SL), as Dewin Concepcion led the way with 14 points.

Dante Agosti followed with 11 points for the Colts, while Brendan Lonergan chipped in with 10 points.

Jake Herman was the lone Viking to score in double figures with 10 points.

CJ Miles’ 32-point performance sparked Bangor to a 52-33 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Miles posted 12 of his game-high 32 points in a high-scoring second quarter for the Slaters (7-2 overall; 6-1 CL), while he added 10 more in the third.

Cayden Fitch led the Tigers (9-3 overall; 6-2 CL) with seven points, while Andres Garrido added six points.

Palmerton got off to a good start with a 19-point opening quarter, and never looked back to score a 51-26 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Owen Buck led the Bombers’ (7-4, 5-2) prolific first with six of his eight points, while Austyn White chipped in with five of his nine points in that quarter.

The Bombers’ Kody Kratzer recorded a game-high 13 points.

Five different players scored in double figures as Southern Lehigh rolled to a 78-39 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

The Spartans drained six of their nine three-pointers in what turned out to be a 31-point opening quarter, and followed that with a 23-point second period.

Ethan McDermott led the Spartans (6-3) in double figures with 14 points, while Daryl Coleman, Max Pristas and Matt Tankred all finished with 12 points apiece. Teammate Noah Denton added 10 points.

Ardit Mujovic was the lone Bulldog (0-6, 0-6) to hit double figures with 11 points.

Blue Mountain pulled away from Tamaqua for a 72-42 Schuylkill League win.

Bryce Hensley led the Blue Eagles with 17 points, while Kade Henninger and Ryan Caulfield both finished with 15 as the Blue Eagles outscored the Raiders 39-23 in the second half.

Nate Gregoire scored a game-high 18 points for Tamaqua, which falls to 1-14 overall and 1-9 in the league.

Weatherly put an end to a seven-game losing streak with a 43-22 nonleague victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech.

The Wreckers (2-12, 1-10 SL) used a 10-0 run to open the third quarter and pull away from the Rams (0-9).

Ashley James posted seven of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter, and also added six rebounds, four assists and nine steals in the win. Teammate Emma Kane scored seven of her nine points in the second half, while Brianna Pugh netted eight.

Marian falls to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the SL.

Leila Hurley hit a scoring milestone, and Jim Thorpe remained unbeaten in Schuylkill League action after a commanding 72-37 victory over Panther Valley.

Skyler Searfoss led the Olympians’ trio with a team-high 19 points, while Hurley chipped in with 15, including the 1,000th of her career. Olivia Smelas also recorded 12 points in the win.

The Panthers’ Erika Dubosky led all scorers with 20 points, while Maddison Maynard added nine.

Jim Thorpe improves to 13-3 overall (11-0 SL), while Panther Valley slides to 4-11 (2-9 SL).

Raegan Nemeth’s big night highlighted Palmerton’s 53-15 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Nemeth drilled three three-pointers for nine of her game-high 17 points in a 21-point second quarter for the Bombers (8-3 overall; 6-2 CL).

The Bombers’ Brianna Moore scored seven of her 15 points in a 19-point third for the locals.

Teammates Kiesten Gursky and Beth Morgan both added seven points.

Northern Lehigh used a solid performance at the foul line in the fourth quarter to come out on top with a 49-42 Colonial League win over Southern Lehigh.

The Bulldogs finished with a 14-for-21 effort at the foul line in the final quarter, in which Emma Niebell went 7-for-8, while Madison Seier went 5-for-8.

Niebell and Seier also led the way in scoring for the Bulldogs (3-3 overall; 3-3 CL), as each finished tied for a game-high 14 points. Teammate Aubrey Pollard also chipped in with 12 points.

Lauren Conron paced the Spartans with 13 points, while Kayla Mobley added 11.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton

Lehighton kept pace with Blue Mountain in the first half, but Blue Mountain eventually pulled away for a 45-37 Schuylkill League victory.

The Indians and Blue Eagles went into halftime tied at 21-21. But Blue Mountain outscored the locals 24-16 in the second half to seal the deal.

Abby Beam and Lindsay Kutz tied for a Blue Eagles’ high, as both finished with 13 points.

Taylor Bowman led the Indians (6-8 overall; 4-7 SL) with 13 points, while Alexis Solomon chipped in 11.

Michael Styka led the Raiders with nine points. Rodino Jesse had six points for the Colts.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Tamaqua held off Blue Mountain, 39-33.

Michael Styka and Spencer Dennis had 11 points each to lead Tamaqua.

Robert Gormley led Blue Mountain with 17 points.
