Basket raffle set for Saturday in Jim Thorpe

Three Jim Thorpe High School students are participating in the student of the year program.

The fundraiser started in January and runs through Feb. 26, with all proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Due to the pandemic, Jim Thorpe students Alexis Proulx, Shaylee Louk and Nicolette McCabe cannot fundraise in many traditional ways.

However, on Saturday, they’ll be hosting their main event, a basket raffle, at the Mauch Chunk Rod & Gun Club in Jim Thorpe from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be more than 40 items for raffle, a 50-50 drawing and a bake sale. Masks must be worn, and social distancing is required.

“I think our main thing that we want to tell people is that obviously you can’t do the main fundraising events,” said Laura Proulx, Alexis’ mother. “We’re hoping the community can help out, this is going to be their main fundraising event and it’s for a great a cause.”

Students from many schools across the Lehigh Valley, and as far north as Scranton, are participating in a friendly competition to raise the most money. A student of the year award is also up for grabs to whoever raises the most money.
