The Marian and Northwestern boys, as well as the Jim Thorpe girls extended winning streaks with victories on Thursday.

Lehighton’s wrestling team posted two wins in a doubleheader at Jim Thorpe, while Tamaqua’s swim team swept North Schuylkill.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian- Minersville

Dante Agosti poured in a game-high 31 points to lead Marian to a 73-41 Schuylkill League victory over Minersville.

Agosti hit nine three-pointers (three in each of the first three quarters), finishing just one off the school record of 10 set by Ed McLaughlin in 2000.

The Colts - who had 15 treys in the contest and have now won six games in a row - improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the league. They also received 10 points from both Dewin Concepcion and Brendaon Lonergan, and eight rebounds from Julian Cerullo.

Shenandoah-Weatherly

Scotty Zoscin scored 10 of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter to give Weatherly a lead it wouldn’t relinquish during a 56-44 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Zoscin, who was held to one point in the opening frame, hit a three-pointer with two minutes left until halftime to put the Wreckers (9-3; 5-3) ahead for good.

The winners also received six points and 14 rebounds from Jacob Solonoski.

For the Devils, who just defeated Weatherly last Saturday, Owen Kosar finished with 26 points.

Northwestern won its fifth game in a row, posting a 52-34 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

The Tigers hit 10 three-pointers in the contest, including five from Cayden Fitch, who finished with a game-high 17 points.

Dylan Witkowski contributed 11 points to the win, as Northwestern improved to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the league.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Jim Thorpe’s winning streak reached nine games after a 63-34 Schuylkill League victory over Blue Mountain.

The Olympians (11-2; 9-0) received a balanced scoring attack as four players reached double figures.

Skyler Searfoss tallied nine of her game-high 15 points in the second quarter as Thorpe used a 20-6 period to take control of the game.

Leila Hurley contributed 13 points to the win, while Olivia Smelas added 12. The Olympians also received 11 points from Leah Snisky.

Pottsville used a strong start to help gain a 54-43 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

The Crimson Tide used five three-pointers in the first quarter to open up a nine-point advantage for which the Indians could never recover.

Jillian Guzick paced the winners with 12 points.

For Lehighton, which dropped to 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the league, Hailey Miller scored a game-high 24 points, which included five three-pointers.

Strunk tallied nine of her points in the third quarter as the winners used a 13-3 period to take control of the contest.

The Bears (2-5; 2-5) received a team-high 13 points from Ella Muir.

The Wreckers (1-10; 1-8) received a game-high 24 points from Ashley James, while Emma Kane chipped in with eight.

Lehighton posted a pair of wins in a doubleheader at Jim Thorpe.

The Indians defeated the host Olympians, 55-11, while also earning a 48-24 victory over Palmerton.

Steven Fritzinger gained decision wins in both matches at 145 pounds. Lehighton also received pins from Chase Neeb (138) and Richard Fronheiser (172) against Jim Thorpe, and from Lucas Ferguson (132) against the Bombers.

The Olympians’ Ridge Snyder posted a fall at 120 pounds, while Colton Stroup (145), Dan Lucykanish (152), Colyn Mertz (160) and Jeremy Mooney (189) all earned pins for Palmerton.

In the girls competition, won 110-64 by Tamaqua, Lexi Buchala earned wins in both the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.
