Bowmanstown mayor reports on support for sanctuary resolution

Reaction to Bowmanstown’s decision to declare the borough as a Second Amendment sanctuary has been favorable.

Mayor Zachary Snyder told borough council on Tuesday that feedback he’s received from residents “overwhelmingly was positive.”

Last month, the borough discussed the Second Amendment rights of the residents of the borough.

Afterward, council on a 6-1 vote at that time adopted a resolution declaring the borough as a Second Amendment sanctuary in accordance with the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. Councilwoman Kara Scott was opposed.

Snyder had asked for council’s support of the resolution.

Scott, the only dissenter, shared her thoughts on the matter.

“This seems to me like a partisan issue,” Scott said.

Snyder disagreed with Scott’s assessment.

Before that vote, Councilman Rob Moyer suggested tabling the resolution and putting together a citizens advisory group.

The resolution states that the borough and mayor express their intent to uphold the Second Amendment rights of the residents of the borough, and that public funds, resources, employees, buildings or offices not be used to restrict Second Amendment rights or to aid or assist in the enforcement of the unnecessary and unconstitutional restriction of the rights under the Second Amendment of the residents of the borough to keep and bear arms.
