Weatherly recognizes school board members
As part of School Board Recognition Month in Pennsylvania, Weatherly Area School Board recognized school board members for years served.
Gerard Grega has served the board for over 28 years.
Board President Girard Fewins has served over 10 years; Matthew von Frisch, seven; Chad Obert, six; William Knepper and Brian O’Donnell each served five; Shay McGee has served three; and April Walters and Thomas Connors Jr. have served two each.
As part of regular business, various leaves of absences were approved for eight staff members. Two of those, from December, are already completed.
Agreements with the Slusser Law Firm were approved to collect delinquent 2020 real estate taxes on behalf of the school district, and also delinquent 2020 school taxes.
Bills of $1,462,619 were approved to be paid from December to this date. Also approved were $32,852 from the GO Bond account, and $38,489 in cafeteria costs.
• In committee reports, personnel and policy Chairman von Frisch thanked staff who make it possible to get students back to in-person learning. Transportation committee Chair O’Donnell said that busing went well, with few glitches on the restart. Athletic committee Chair Obert explained that by refiguring the gym capacity, “we can fit 180 people maximum” with social distancing.
• A decision was made to modify the bid specifications about the paving to be done to eliminate the walls and stairs, as those things are not paving. The project attracted 12 companies to a per-bid meeting. The paving will be readvertised. Bids must arrive before 3 p.m. on Feb. 3, ahead of the caucus meeting that night when the bids can be opened.
Also on the property committee topic, heating systems company Trane was sending service people into the Weatherly district buildings over the weekend to do some warranty work.
The next open meeting for the Weatherly school board, held online, is Feb. 3 for the caucus meeting and Feb. 10 for the regular meeting, beginning at 7 p.m.
