Monroe man jailed after shooting gun during argument with wife

A Monroe County man was jailed Monday following a domestic incident which involved a gun and four victims, including a toddler.

State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred at a residence along Lakeview Drive in Ross Township at 8:18 p.m.

Troopers responded to the report of a violent domestic incident. During the investigation it was learned that Jonathan Finch, 27, of Saylorsburg, was heavily intoxicated and began arguing with his 25-year-old wife.

The argument became physical when he punched, pushed and slapped his wife. During that time police said Finch retrieved a 9 mm rifle from a closet and loaded it.

He fired several shots from the gun from the front door of the residence. Finch then pointed the gun at his 44-year-old mother-in-law who was near a 2-year-old girl. At that time he threatened to shoot the mother-in-law for calling 911 and also threatened to shoot any troopers who responded to the residence.

A brother-in-law, 21, arrived on scene and was assaulted by Finch. During this time the wife was able to secure the gun in a safe location until troopers arrived.

Finch was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

He was placed in the county prison in Snydersville where records indicate he is still an inmate.
