Lenten series

Effort UMC will host a Lenten series based on Seven Things the Lord Hates, featuring the North District clergy. It will begin on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Due to the COVID-19 church guidelines and restrictions, this study will be available for up to 40 people. Registration will be required.

Maple sugaring

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center announces maple sugaring programs for schools, groups and scouts.

Each year the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center conducts tours of its maple sugaring site in Marshalls Creek in February and March for schools, scouts, home-schoolers and other interested groups. Two-hour tours include stops at stations providing information on the history of maple sugaring, which dates back to the Native Americans, the evaporating process used today and provides the groups with the opportunity to tap a maple tree whose sap will be used in the 2021 maple syrup production.

Dates this year for organized groups - including students, scouts and any organization - have been set for March 1 through March 12.

Warehouse sale

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is having another warehouse sale open to the public. All proceeds from sales in the warehouse allow Habitat to administer all of its programs, including home preservation.

The home preservation program partners with homeowners affected by low income, old age or disability to make necessary repairs to their homes.

Interested shoppers can contact Monroe County Habitat for Humanity for more information by calling 570 216-4390 or emailing execdirector@habitatmc.org.

Current items include new doors, both interior and exterior, that are pictured on the Habitat’s Facebook page, and such items as building materials, paint, insulation, and plumbing and lighting fixtures.
