Several people were injured, one seriously in a multivehicle crash along Route 309 in Rush Township. The crash occurred around 11 a.m. just north of Tamaqua. A Jeep had severe damage to its side and rear while a pickup truck broadsided a van, with a person in the van being seriously injured. Hometown firefighters and members of the Tamaqua rescue squad freed those trapped in the wreckage. The victims were treated at the scene by members of the Ryan Township ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. Route 309 is closed to all traffic. Rush Township police are investigating the incident.
