Fire tears through Walnutport modular home

Fire tore through a modular home early Sunday morning in Lehigh Township.

Township fire Chief Rick Hildebrand said the fire department received the dispatch at 4:11 a.m. for the report of a fire at 131 W. Zimmer Dr. in the Mountain View Mobile Home Park in Walnutport.

“The initial caller reported fire through the roof,” Hildebrand said. “When we arrived, the trailer was fully involved.”

Hildebrand said there was no one inside at the time, and added there were no injuries.

“Cold temperatures (so we), needed additional manpower,” he said. “Also brought additional water, (there was) no reliable hydrant up there.”

Hildebrand said firefighters had the fire under control by 4:57 a.m., but remained on scene until 7:04 a.m. “mopping up hot spots and digging through everything.”

He said the modular home is a total loss.

Hildebrand said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Lehigh Township Fire Marshal.

He said several surrounding fire departments from Northampton and Lehigh Counties, along with one from Carbon County provided aid.

“It was kind of easy because there was no interior work necessary,” Hildebrand said. “It was not capable of entering; it was all exterior work basically.”
