Albrightsville man faces drug charges
An Albrightsville man is facing DUI and drug charges.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Michael Sofranko of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Nathan Eckhart:
On Jan. 6, police received a call about an erratic driver in a Silver Hyundai SUV on Route 209. The driver pulled into Sunny’s Pizza.
The caller said that he was following the erratic driver north on 209 since the area of the turnpike.
He said the driver went off the road, crossed over the center line and fluctuated his speeds numerous times.
Cpl. Shawn Noonan and Sofranko responded and saw a man parked in the lot with the vehicle running.
Eckhart, 37, was slouched toward the center console. Police knocked on the window and Eckhart appeared “out of it,” drowsy and tired.
Sofranko asked Eckhart to exit the vehicle, and Sofranko noticed a piece of burned metal tin foil with residue, an orange capped needle and a blue glassine baggie in the center console area.
Police also found a loaded hypodermic needle; a bunch of light blue glassine baggies; and a bag that contained a scale with residue and numerous empty glassine baggies.
Eckhart was given a field sobriety test and he admitted to having just used, and he was taken into custody.
A search of Eckhart’s pocket revealed a bag that contained 14 additional light blue bundles containing 16 glassine baggies each, totaling 230 light blue glassine baggies.
A small container with an unknown white chunky substance was also found, as well as two cellphones and additional pieces of glassine baggies and thin foil.
Eckhart would not consent to a chemical test of blood.
Eckhart faces charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered; use/possession of drug paraphernalia; and driving under influence of alcohol/controlled substance.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight bail, and is scheduled for formal arraignment March 19.
