Deer rescued at Wild Creek Reservoir

A deer was rescued after it fell on ice Sunday morning in Towamensing Township.

Township fire Chief Danny Reis said firefighters were dispatched by Carbon County at around 9 a.m. after a passer-by noticed a deer fall on ice at the Wild Creek Reservoir.

Reis said they called for the Lehighton Fire Department Water Rescue Team to assist.

“We set up a rope system,” Reis said. “They roped the deer and it was pulled to shore line.”

Reis said the deer, believed to be a doe, suffered significant injuries to its side and stomach area.

He said after they removed the rope from its neck, the deer took off.

Reis said they remained on scene for nearly three hours.

He said also assisting on scene were the Bethlehem Water Authority Police, as well as a worker from the Bethlehem Water Authority.

Reis said that since the incident occurred over the weekend, they were able to have a “very decent response.”

“I’m glad everything went well,” Reis said. “We thank Lehighton for their assistance.”
