The potential addition of a camera system at Bowmanstown Borough Hall has been put on hold.
Borough council on Tuesday agreed to table a quote it received in the amount of $2,150 from Control Security.
Councilman Rob Moyer questioned the need for the camera system.
“I don’t know why we need a camera system,” Moyer said. “We can upgrade our computers for that.”
Council President William Ravert said he believes the camera system is needed.
Ravert cited an instance where borough hall was almost broken into, and that having a camera system would allow state police to review footage.
Councilwoman Kara Scott said she believes the money would be better spent if it were used to install cameras in the tunnel that runs under Route 248.
“Where people feel the least safe is the tunnel; people do not feel safe,” Scott said. “Perhaps we could look to use that (there).”
In November, council announced that the security cameras that were previously purchased would not meet the needs of the borough and have been returned and refunded.
Earlier in the meeting, council discussed the matter of computer support.
Moyer said he believes the borough’s computer system “needs to be addressed.”
He said the cost would likely be somewhere between $3,000 to $4,000, and noted that the borough does have money budgeted for this year.
Ravert said it would be wise for the borough to shop around.
“I think if you’re looking at upgrading, I think we need to get a couple different quotes,” Ravert said.
