Summit Hill couple spreads Christmas cheer

Christmas magic is everywhere.

From the snow that gently sits on top of decorations to the twinkling lights on the trees, Christmas just makes the year a little brighter.

Just ask Kevin and Kira Steber.

The Summit Hill couple have been putting up lights for years at their home at 50 E. Lehigh St., but recently Kevin began adding more to their display in the hopes of creating a little extra Christmas magic for the community he loves.

“We have seen other larger scale Christmas displays and always wanted to create our own for ourselves and the community,” Kevin said. “Every year, we like to add lights and different elements to our display.”

The Stebers began looking for something special that would add a little pizazz to their display.

They found their something special in Kevin’s memories from childhood and a local store.

“As a kid I took a liking to vintage Christmas blow molds, (so) the main theme to our display are these classic treasures that we get from Tink’s Antiques in Tamaqua,” he said. “We currently have 40 blow molds in our display and are always looking to add unique ones.

“My obsession with Christmas has rubbed off on my wife, Kira, and my daughter Kacy and they are an integral part of setting up each and every part of the display.”

The Stebers started creating this year’s display just before Thanksgiving and spent approximately 40 hours setting up the 18,000 lights and various figures around the property.

“Our goal is to someday hit the 25,000 (light) mark,” Kevin said.

The Stebers now light their display nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight now through Jan. 7 and invite everyone to come enjoy their lights.

“We take pride in our community and love to give back when we can,” Steber said. “Since our house is positioned atop of Route 902 coming up from Lansford, virtually everybody that comes into Summit Hill passes our house. Being that we are huge Christmas fans we decided we had the perfect location to spread some holiday cheer and showcase our favorite holiday.”
