Two people were seriously injured Tuesday night in a two-car crash along Route 209 in Nesquehoning.
Nesquehoning Borough Police officer Timothy Wuttke said police were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. to the incident that occurred between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe.
Wuttke said a Chevy Cavalier was traveling south on Route 209 and a 2013 Red Honda Civic was traveling north.
Wuttke said the Civic crossed the double yellow lines and struck the Cavalier.
He said the Cavalier sustained heavy damage and was found resting against the guardrail.
Wuttke said the driver of the Cavalier, Tara Ferraira, 47, of Nesquehoning, and the passenger, Sarah Savronoch, 31, of Nesquehoning, had to be extricated by fire personnel.
He said Ferraira was flown by MedEvac to Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest, while Savronoch was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to St. Luke’s Bethlehem.
Wuttke said Ferraira is in stable condition, but added there was no update on Savronoch.
He said the operator of the Civic, Anthony Bekesy, 28, of Lehighton, sustained minor injuries.
Wuttke said the investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
He said the road was closed to traffic for about two hours.
Also assisting at the scene were Jim Thorpe Police Department, Nesquehoning Hose Company, New Columbus Fire Company, Hauto Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance with multiple units, Jim Thorpe Fire Department, Nesquehoning Fire Police, and Marouchoc’s Auto Repair, which towed the vehicles.
