An anticipated white Christmas turned into a soggy holiday with flood warnings, rain-covered roadways and treacherous driving conditions after heavy rain pelted the area during a spell of mild air.
Driving rain and wind combined with unseasonably warm temperatures, melting the deep snow pack and sending rivers and streams upward in a matter of a few hours.
Schuylkill County was under a flood warning from 7:42 a.m. on Christmas Day until 8:31 a.m. on Dec. 26. Similar warnings for Carbon and Monroe counties have expired.
In Schuylkill County, there were numerous reports of flooded basements beginning Christmas Eve. In some cases, fire departments were called out for pumping detail.
The Little Schuylkill River was running between at between five and six feet deep though Tamaqua on Christmas Day according to the USGS flow report.
