Carbon commissioners set 2021 meeting schedule

Carbon County is continuing to alter its course regarding meetings as the pandemic continues to grip the world.

On Thursday, the commissioners approved the 2021 meeting schedule and some changes were made so that the public can participate. The meeting was held via Zoom and livestreamed on Facebook.

Commissioner Chris Lukasevich pointed out that in addition to livestreaming the county’s meetings on the Carbon County Commissioners Facebook page, until the end of the county’s disaster emergency for the coronavirus pandemic, the public will be able to submit public comments via email at cccommiss@ptd.net until 9 a.m. the day of each scheduled meeting.

The public can review each draft agenda for commissioners, prison board, planning commission, railroad, retirement and election board meetings, which are posted 24 hours before the meeting, to better prepare a public comment if desired.

In 2021, the county’s meeting schedule begins at 2 p.m. on Jan. 4 with the annual salary board meeting, followed by the weekly commissioners’ meeting.

Beginning Jan. 14, commissioners meetings will be held at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday except for Thanksgiving, with salary board meetings being held the first Thursday of each month; election board, the second Thursday of each month; and retirement board, the third Thursday of each month.

Meetings for the county prison board have shifted from the prison as a result of the pandemic to the commissioners’ conference room in Jim Thorpe and are held at 1:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning Jan. 20.
