Three-vehicle crash on turnpike

State police at the Pocono barracks reported investigating a three-vehicle crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County, that occurred during a snowy period. Troopers said the crash was reported at 9:51 a.m. on Dec. 9.

Troopers said Ashton G. Hayes, 30, of Landover Hills, Maryland, was driving a 2018 International Harvester truck with trailer, southbound in the right lane. The road was snow-covered at the time. Hayes lost control of the rig with the trailer moving to the left and the passenger side frame striking the center concrete barrier. The tractor portion turned abruptly to the right and the front of it hit an embankment. The trailer of the rig came to rest sideways in the right lane of travel.

At this time Anthony K. Umfer, 34, of Collegeville, Montgomery County, driving a 2018 Volkswagen Golf, and Leonard E. Lackey, 50, of Albrightsville, driving a 2019 Hyundai XG, were southbound in the right lane with the front ends of both vehicles sliding underneath the trailer.

There were no injuries reported.

Troopers said Hayes was given a written warning for driving a vehicle at a safe speed.
