The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Thursday that there were 9,966 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 529,335.
There are 6,346 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,238 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
Local numbers
Carbon County reported 2,102 cases, an increase of 40 since Wednesday. Two more deaths were reported, bringing the total to 84.
Lehigh County reported 16,525, an increase of 420. One more death were reported since Tuesday, for a total of 435.
Luzerne County has 14, 417 cases, an uptick of 534 since Wednesday. The county reported six deaths. The count is now at 395.
Monroe reported 4,938, an increase of 67. Deaths are now at 181, as two more were reported Thursday.
Northampton County reported 13, 459 cases, 308 more than Wednesday. There are 372 deaths after two more were reported Thursday.
Schuylkill reported 6,083, 185 more than Wednesday. Two more deaths were reported for a running total of 217.
