Municipal snow warnings, school closures

With snow forecast to impact the area Wednesday into Thursday, we will be listing snow emergencies, school closures and road closures throughout the storm.

If you have any snow totals in your area during the storm or photos from the storm you would like to submit, send them to tneditor@tnonline.com. Please include your name and town where you reside, where the photo was taken and any names of people in the photos.

School changes

• St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua: Virtual flex day. No students or staff report to the school. Check Google Classroom for assignments.

• Marian Catholic High School: Wednesday will be a Flexible Instruction Day; Thursday, will be a SNOW DAY. No academic work will be required this day. Friday, TBA, will be weather dependent.

Office closings

• All Carbon County Government Offices will be closed Thursday. The Commissioners meeting will be held virtually as planned.

Municipal snow emergencies

• Bowmanstown: A Snow Emergency is in effect until Thursday. Please follow the odd/even parking rules during this time. (Wednesday park on the even side, Thursday the odd side of the street). If you’re on the emergency route, please move your vehicles accordingly.

Franklin Township: A Snow Emergency is in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday. Motorists are asked to stay off the roads as much as possible, and to not shovel snow on roadways.

• Lansford: Due to the Storm, the following Emergency Parking Restrictions will be in place effective noon on Wednesday until futher notice: No parking for all of Water and Front streets and Kline and Snyder avenues. The borough will work to restore parking as quickly as possible after the storm.

• Lehighton: A snow emergency is in effect as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, and will remain in effect until further notice. By ordinance, vehicles must be removed from the designated Snow Emergency routes, and failure to comply can result in fines and the towing of vehicles at the owner’s expense. Residents should watch for the orange “No Parking” signs after the storm for snow removal. Private plowing of the streets is not allowed unless a permit is issued by the borough. It is illegal to dispose of snow on borough streets. All residential sidewalks must be cleared within 48 hours of the cessation of the storm. All businesses must clear their sidewalks within four hours of the cessation of the storm. Borough officials appreciate your cooperation while they attempt to effectively and efficiently remove the snow and ice.

• McAdoo: The borough of McAdoo has instituted a snow ban starting 9 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday. Residents should park on the even side of the street. Parking in alleys is prohibited. A Facebook post on the borough’s website says there are other restrictions prohibited by ordinance without stating what they are. Violators of the ban can be ticketed and towed.

Once the snow has stopped, sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 24 hours (businesses within four hours or by daybreak.) Violators can be ticketed and cited.

• Palmerton: Winter storm parking regulations are in effect. Visit the Palmerton Police Department Facebook page for complete ordinance during snowstorms. For this storm, on Wednesday, if the snow accumulation has reached 2 inches or more before 7 p.m., vehicles must be on the EVEN side of streets. Between 7-8 p.m. on Dec. 16 vehicles must be moved to the ODD side of the street. If snow accumulation doesn’t reach 2 inches until after 7 p.m., vehicles can remain in normal parking spots during the day. Between 7-8 p.m. vehicles must be moved to the ODD side of the street. On Thursday, vehicles must continue to be parked on the ODD side of the street until 7 p.m. Between 7-8 p.m. vehicles must be moved to the EVEN side of the street.

• Summit Hill: Winter storm parking regulations are in effect Wednesday into Thursday. See telephone poles or the Summit Hill borough Facebook page for parking restriction rules. Those who do not move their vehicle for snow plows will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Postponements and closures

• Nesquehoning: The borough council meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday has been postponed. It is being rescheduled for Dec. 29.

• Schuylkill Transportation: Bus service for the Schuylkill Transportation System has changed due to the impending snow. Fixed route bus service has been canceled for Wednesday. Shared Ride van service is limited to medically needy dialysis service only, according to a Facebook post. Fixed route bus service is also canceled Thursday along with Shared van service.
