Schuylkill County Commissioners approved a new human resources director Wednesday.

Minersville resident Heidi Zula was appointed as the new director replacing Deborah Twigg, who resigned in August. Zula’s salary is $79,000. Her first day is Jan. 11.

County Administrator Gary Bender said previously Zula interviewed well when chosen for an interview. Zula is listed as director of human resources at Middletown Area School District, where she has been for 10 years.

Twigg had been the director since January 2018, having been hired after former HR director/risk manager Martina Chwastiak retired.

Doreen Kutzler has been serving as interim human resources director in September after commissioners approved hiring the firm Hubric Resources, of Wyomissing, for interim human resources director support and human resources recruiting support.

In her role, Kutzler has sent out news releases about county employees who have tested positive for COVID-19. Kutzler said she will help in the transition.
