A veteran Jim Thorpe Borough councilwoman is calling it quits.
Edith Lukasevich tendered her resignation, which was accepted by council with regret Thursday night.
She won a council seat at age 90 in 2017 and has one year left on her term.
“It’s been a sincere pleasure serving and representing the community to which we are beholden,” Lukasevich, who was not at Thursday’s meeting, wrote in a letter to council.
She previously served on borough council between 1995 and 2002.
“Edie has been a stalwart in the community, serving in lots of different roles over the years,” Borough President Greg Strubinger said. “We want to thank her for everything she has done for the borough.”
Lukasevich’s resignation will be effective Jan. 1, 2021, but the borough will begin looking for someone to serve the final year of her term immediately.
“We are accepting letters of interest and we hope to review those at our end of the year meeting on Dec. 30,” Strubinger said.
The borough has 30 days from Jan. 1 to fill the seat.
