Tamaqua to hold virtual community Advent service

Under normal circumstances, Tamaqua would be observing the 10th annual Community Advent Breakfast this weekend, but these are not normal times.

Members of the Tamaqua Ministerium and the Tamaqua Faith Fellowship Network felt the need to offer a virtual Community Advent Service in place of the annual breakfast as part of the wonderful Spirit of Christmas activities already held in the community.

A webcast of the service will premiere at 7 p.m. Sunday and will include a combination of recently and previously recorded performances and presentations.

Links will be available on the TAFFN Facebook page and will be sent to all Tamaqua churches and TAFFN representatives.

Musical guests include the Tamaqua High School Jazz Chorale (from its 2018 Advent Breakfast appearance) and Glenn Davis and Michael Clark (from their appearance in a 2018 Christmas in July service).

Program participants are Pastors Ed Noftz of New Life Assembly of God, Kevin Roberts of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Darryl Kensinger of Trinity United Church of Christ and Cindy White of Zion Lutheran Church; Paul Dodson, TAFFN’s Help the Hungry coordinator and Bethany member; Cheryl Nemeth of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church; Micah Gursky, Tamaqua Area Community Partnership executive director; Linda Heigele, Tamaqua 2020 Citizen of the Year; and George Taylor, TAFFN representative and Zion Lutheran member.

The presentations were recorded by the Rev. John Frink at St. John XXIII in Tamaqua. Frink is also assembling and posting the program.

TAFFN is an organization of lay leaders from Tamaqua area churches whose mission is to promote understanding and cooperation among congregations. TAFFN operates under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
