The Tamaqua Area School District reported a COVID-19 case on Tuesday.
Superintendent Ray Kinder addressed district families in a letter.
“The individual is a staff member at Tamaqua Middle School,” Kinder’s letter said. “The individual has been assigned to isolation. All other personal information is strictly confidential. The school district has utilized protocols from the Department of Health, collected data, and analyzed factors of transmission. It was determined that no additional individuals will need to quarantine.”
In an additional letter to TASD families, Kinder addressed more changes after Gov. Tom Wolf changed guidelines earlier this week.
“After examining the new mandate, one area of our operation that will need to be adjusted is related to the use of face shields,” Kiner said.
“The document is specific in that face shields should only be used when masks are unable to be worn. Guidance dictates that simply being uncomfortable with wearing a mask is not a sufficient reason to wear a face shield. With that reality, we need to begin the process of transitioning individuals, both students and staff, who utilize face shields over to wearing masks.”
Kinder said adherence to the new mandate is required for an in-person instructional model to continue.
