Chestnuthill Township repairs bridge, reopens Hypsie Gap Road

The Hypsie Gap Road in Chestnuthill Township, closed 1 mile north of the intersection of Route 715 since Oct. 22 for extensive repairs and a new decking on the Hypsie Gap Bridge, is now opened.

The bridge opened early morning on Friday.

“We really had to do some extensive repairs. It was more than just replacing the bridge deck,” said Dave Albright, Chestnuthill Township manager.

The deck replacement was just one part of the bridge’s renovations, Albright said. Steel beams had to be replaced and cement had to be poured as well as other repairs made to make the bridge safe and up to Pennsylvania codes.

“Considering how much work had to be done to fix the bridge, Albright said, “It all went very smoothly and were able to finish up pretty quickly.”

The cost of the repairs for renovating the bridge was just over $259,000. The money for the repairs was taken from the township’s infrastructure funds.
