Family, friends honor memory of Kristin Olivia-Fromal at library

She was a parent, educator and community volunteer who believed in the power of kindness and empathy.

Often, Kristin Olivia-Fromal used books as a teaching tool with young children.

Which is why it’s only fitting, then, that a special collection of over 30 children’s books is being added to the Palmerton Area Library in her memory.

Olivia-Fromal, 44, of Warrington, Bucks County, formerly of Palmerton, passed away on July 28.

In honor of Olivia-Fromal, her family and friends will read a book each day this month on the Palmerton Area Library’s Facebook page.

Many of the books she used are part of the special collection which focuses on compassion, self-confidence, empathy, and determination.

“We want to thank Kristin’s family and friends for their generous donation, and for curating this collection that children will love and parents will value,” said Palmerton Library Director Christine DeSousa.

With the celebration of Thanksgiving, November is a time to focus on kindness and gratitude, and also coincides with Olivia Fromal’s birth month.

World Kindness Day, International Day of Tolerance, Future Teachers of America and Universal Children’s Day are all celebrated this month, which creates a perfect opportunity to share these stories online for families to enjoy and join in Olivia-Fromal’s legacy.

Olivia-Fromal was employed as an internet based online counselor for the Pearson Education Academy of London, England. A certified guidance counselor, she was also employed by the City of Philadelphia School District and the Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School.

Previously, Olivia-Formal worked for several law firms in the greater Philadelphia Area.

Olivia-Fromal was a 1993 graduate and valedictorian of Palmerton High School. She later graduated from Duke University, NC, obtained her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and then went on to receive her guidance certificate from Gwynedd College.

After each reading is recorded, the book will be available for checkout to anyone with a Lehigh Carbon Library Cooperative Card.

Readers will notice a special dedication in the front cover of each of the books.

Anyone who is interested in recording a reading of one of Olivia-Fromal’s collection to be shared on the Palmerton Area Library Facebook page can contact Rachel DeMicco at the library at 610-826-3424.
