Schuylkill adds 40 virus cases, 5 deaths

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Wednesday that there were 2,795 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 217,666.

There are 8,890 deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 35 new deaths reported.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 26,721 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,753 cases among employees, for a total of 32,474 at 1,094 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,851 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 12,663 of our total cases are among health care workers.

• Carbon County is reporting 644 cases, an increase of six cases since Monday. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by one to 32.

• Lehigh County is reporting 7,087 cases, an increase of 63. Three additional deaths have been reported for a total of 369.

• Luzerne County reported an increase of 62 cases, bringing the total to 5,794. Two more deaths have been reported for a total of 209.

• Monroe County has 26 new cases, bringing the total to 2,157. Deaths remain at 135.

• Northampton County has 5,748 cases, an increase of 48 cases. Deaths remain at 315.

• Schuylkill County has 2,307 cases, an increase of 40 cases. Five additional deaths have been reported for a total of 102.
