A 71-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man, both from Penn Forest Township, are the victims of online theft incidents that were reported to state police at the Lehighton and Fern Ridge barracks.
Police said the woman, who resides along Shad Blue Lane, told them at 9:58 a.m. Oct. 15 she lost money on a vehicle that was listed on the Facebook Marketplace. She said she paid for the vehicle with eBay gift cards over the telephone and never received the vehicle. The amount of her loss was not revealed by police.
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said a 64-year-old man from Unionville Road, is out $1,600 in a similar incident. The resident told police at 12:40 p.m. Oct. 7 he purchased eBay gift cards to pay for an ATV he saw for sale on the Facebook Marketplace. He said he scratched the numbers off the card and provided them to the unknown suspect who never delivered the ATV to him.
