A woman got pinned underneath her vehicle after it rolled down a hill in reverse as she was walking to pick up her child from day care in Palmerton Tuesday morning.

Borough police Chief Randy Smith said police were dispatched at 11:31 a.m. to what was reported as a person hit by a car in front of the Little Bombers Daycare, at 180 Delaware Ave.

It was actually in the rear parking lot, according to Smith, who said the incident occurred after Kristyn Yuknek, 31, of Palmerton, parked her 2015 GMC SUV in the rear parking lot of the day care and pulled into a parking spot that was on an incline.

“As she was walking down to the day care, her vehicle decided to follow her,” Smith said. “According to the officer, the vehicle was still in drive, but then from witness statements, they felt that the car was not put in park, and it just began to roll down the hill in reverse.”

As a result, Smith said Yuknek was pinned underneath the driver side rear tire area.

He said Yuknek was eventually freed from underneath the vehicle after the rear tire was removed.

Smith said she was conscious and alert, and complaining about back and knee pain.

He said Yuknek was taken down to the Seventh Street football field, and later taken by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment.

Smith said also assisting at the scene were Palmerton Fire Department, Aquashicola Fire Company, Palmerton Ambulance and Lehighton Ambulance.
